HEALTH & WELLNESS NAVIGATOR

This new role offered by the Ooknakane Friendship Centre (OFC) is to provide support and advocacy to the Urban Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Peoples living off reserve) populations, their families, and members of the OFC's members.

 

To Strengthen healthcare access and navigation, this role will provide crucial support and act as a liaison between off-reserve Indigenous communities and healthcare providers.

 

Our Health and Wellness Navigator will assist individuals in understanding healthcare options, accessing appropriate services, and advocating for their healthcare needs. They will also work closely with healthcare professional, promoting cultural understanding and facilitating effective communication.

Health & Wellness Navigator can help with:

  • emotional support

  • cultural support

  • assistance with appointment and referral processes

  • community liaison with medical and specialist appointments

  • attending medical appointments for support as needed

  • patient travel as needed

We aim to cultivate an equitable and responsive healthcare environment that respects the diverse needs of Urban Indigenous Peoples.
